07 · Questions, answered

The things everyone asks in March.

How deep should mulch go?
For most established beds, 2–3 inches of fresh mulch is the sweet spot — enough to suppress weeds and lock in moisture without smothering plant crowns. We default to 3" on first-season beds and 2" on top-ups. You can override depth in the quote tool.
How do you calculate cubic yards?
Bed area (square feet) × depth (inches) ÷ 324 = cubic yards. We pull bed area straight from the polygons you draw on the satellite view, then round up to the nearest delivery increment. Show-the-math is in every quote.
Is delivery included?
Yes. Every quote includes mulch sourcing, delivery, and on-site spreading. There's no separate "delivery fee" or "fuel surcharge" line item — what you see is the door price.
When's the best time for spring mulching?
In Greater Boston, late March through early May. Wait until the ground has thawed and you've done the first cleanup pass — perennials should be a few inches up so we can mulch around them, not over them. Our calendar opens March 1st.
Dyed vs natural mulch — what's the difference?
Natural hardwood ages from chocolate brown to silver-grey over the season. Dyed mulch (black, red, or rich brown) holds its color for 9–12 months but breaks down a touch slower. Both are safe for beds and root systems — we only carry food-grade-pigment dyed product.
Can I combine mulching with spring cleanup?
That's exactly what the Spring Reset package does — one truck, one crew, one visit. Cleanup happens first (debris haul, edging, old mulch out), then we lay fresh mulch the same morning. Most homes save 15–20% bundling vs booking the two separately.
